J Joseph Atto I agree with Jasmine Abdal. Chaldeans co-existed peacefully with their neighbors in Iran, Iraq, Syria, and even Turkey for thousands of years without issue. Muslims never held demonstrations against churches being built, in the middle east, nor here in America. It wasn't until the modern age (early 1900s) when the Ottoman empire was attacked by European (Christian) countries that our people (nasha diyyan) began to be persecuted, and it was because of external interference. They were seen as the "co-religionists" of the enemy of the state. Let us not forget also that the previous Iraqi government was rather supportive of religious liberty -- remember when the Iraqi Government even donated $250,000 towards a Chaldean church to be built in Detroit decades ago, as well as other Chaldean churches around the world? (http://www.foxnews.com/.../saddam-hussein-helped-detroit...) In America we have freedom of speech, as well as freedom of (and freedom FROM) religion. This means we are a nation of civil law, not religious law. If a group of people want to build a house of worship, you have no business trying to stop them. You have every right to freedom of speech, even if your speech is hateful (that's why the ACLU supported even the right of the KKK to march through predominantly Jewish Skokie, IL). Would you be opposed if a Jewish congregation wanted to build a synagogue or a Hindu congregation wanted to build a temple? Shame...

This same community must have a terrible memory, considering that no Muslims ever held demonstrations when churches were built in Iraq, Iran, Syria, Turkey, or any other country in the middle east. Furthermore, our people the Chaldeans did not complain when Saddam Hussein himself donated hundreds of thousands of dollars for a Chaldean Church to be built in Detroit decades ago. Shame, shame shame.

>Michael Taylor Let me set the record straight. I am the Mayor of Sterling Heights. I am opposed to this mosque being built on 15 Mile Road. It is sad that my political opponents are lying to you and trying to scare you into thinking I am insensitive to the Chaldean people throughout the world. My heart breaks for the Christians in Iraq and throughout the world who are being terrorized by Islamic terrorists. I will do EVERYTHING in my power to protect, support and defend the Chaldean population in Sterling Heights. I have nothing to do with this mosque and do not want it built there.

>Jasmine Abdal Why is everyone so opposed to a mosque being built? I'm confused. Didn't Jesus HIMSELF say to never have hate for other people & their religions? Just a simple question. smile emoticon

>Chaldean Nation this is not about hate. it is about respecting the Chaldean community which is 99% of this area population and not serv the few minority with foreign funds to support build mosques (more than one) around the city of very tiny minority of Muslims. it does not make sense unless there is a master plan to create another Dearborn.

>Jasmine Abdal I understand that but why do you assume there is a master plan? It is your inherent nature to assume things about muslims when they are people just like us. I am Chaldean myself. I was always taught to respect other people and their religions.

>Jasmine Abdal This town is not home to only Chaldeans. I understand we are experiencing a genocide in the middle east BUT not every muslim is a bad person. It might be to a far lesser extent but what I am reading sounds like you want to prevent them from practicing their own faith. Just like how it was done to us in the Middle East.

>Omar Binno Hmm, let's see, all i said is dont pull the Jesus card and now you want to label me as bothered? lolll funny. You're obviously more bothered than i am for you to have commented at all to defend Islam. Do you preach about Jesus when you're involved in fornication, lying, manipulation, deceit, lust, or any other sin? I highly doubt it. Don't use Jesus to biasedly defend your position.
