Since some like to quote Herodotus to prove that Syria and Assyria are one and the same, there is another Greek named Poseidonius who actually lived in Syria and he wrote: "the people we(Greeks) call Syrians were called by the Syrians themselves Arameans for the people in Syria are Araemeans". This refutes the idea that Syria and Assyria were the same. There was a time when some Greeks and Romans who were unfamiliar with the region confused the two but it was clearly an error and nothing more. However, even if the above were not the case, that does not mean that the two are the same people or that the modern Nestorians are rightfully the direct and pure descendants of the ancient Assyrians while Chaldeans and Arameans are just wrong and confused. The Chaldeans and especially the Arameans were calling themselves by those names before the Anglicans invented the modern Assyrian nationalism. Why are they wrong all along while the Nestorians are suddenly the true and correct ones? How is it that the ancient Chaldeans and Arameans did not survive while the ancient Assyrians survived all along when they were badly defeated and they collapsed? It seems obvious that these fanatic nationalist are always lost when such questions are posed and they just attack the person questiong them and accuse him of being a zionist or a traitor. On one hand, it's quiet convenient to just shout insults and fould names at the person for just pointing out facts. On the other hand, proving the scholars, historians and authors wrong is another. For example, John Joseph is called a traitor and an agent of the Zionists, but his works can not be refuted by these nationalists. But I gotta give it to them that they actually try to argue or refute the professionals with the works of clowns like Fred Aprim and others of that level. The works of John Joseph are of scholarly level, they are backed and supported by real sources, and references, but these nationalist argue with the junk they learned from their priests and mom and dad. Since the priests say so, it must be right and everyone else is just working against them, yet these are the ones to call others "narrow minded"? --------------------- |
