When I lived in Germany, I knew an Armenian family from Iran and they said the same thing. All the Assyrians I knew from Iran also said the same thing and frequently visited Iran. My mother was a single mom in Germany so the govt assigned us a young woman to kind of spent time with me and my brother. She would come few times out of the week and we would go to the movies, sporting events, concerts etc. She helped us with our homework and that was basically her job assigned by the youth dept. She was from Iran as well and a Muslim but her sister was married to a Christian. They came to visit from Texas and he turned out to be Assyrian. I also knew another young Assyrian guy from Iran who was married to a Muslima Iranian woman and the other Assyrians would ask him why he did that and he would always say "I didn't marry muhammad but her, she has her religion and I have my". I saw a show on German TV about the Jews, Armenians and Assyrians of Iran and all the people on the show were happy and loved Iran. The Assyrian guy had an image of a winged bull behind him and he said "we are Assyrian and we are Persian and proud of both". I thought that was cool. The only group I know of who aren't tolerated much are the Bahai and that's only because they were former Muslims who split while still using some of Islam and that isn't tolerated by the govt. If anyone needs to be "concerned" it should be Americans about their own country which is absurd. In Iraq, Iran Syria, Turkey, Kuwait etc one can hear church bells etc. In America people don't even have basic rights. They say the same thing about China and it supposedly violates human rights yet you see America has millions of homeless, high crime rates, starving people, and high prison population while Chine has none of those problems. Every Chinese can go to a doctor for free and they have damn near 2 billion people. In America, health care, education and other services are only a privilege for few. --------------------- |
