Our Muslim neighbors in Tehran were so gentle and sweet to us. The boys would carry my mom's groceries each time when she'd come home from shopping. They'd be in their pajamas, and their mother, Massih Khanoum, would tell them to run down the street and help my mom. And almost once a week, usually the night before Jumah, my dad, while drinking vodka, would for some reason go psycho and open the windows and yell in Persian about wiping his dick with Muhammad's beard. And through our kitchen window we could hear the neighbors say "Agha Malik is not feeling well." It was so embarrassing. And the bullshit we were fed about being Christian and belonging to a Christian country like America. Our good "Christian" neighbors in the U.S sure didn't make us feel welcomed. Although, I don't blame some our American neighbors for wanting us out the neighborhood. Who the fuck wants live downstairs from a tribe of Mid-easterners dancing sheykhaneh at 3 a.m on a Wednesday morning, drunk and yelling "Shmudleh! Ay! Ay! Sss! Ho!"
