You said it right. The Chaldeans never had such an idea and the Chaldean "nationalism" which was only recently invented is because of the pressure they received from the "Assyrians" but even these are a few. Since I was young, my parents and every Assyrian I knew would call the Chaldeans "Arab lovers" instead of Kaldanaye my father calls them "Kalbanaye" (Dogs)and just about every dirty word. My aunt tells me how successful they Chaldeans were in predominent Arab cities and they hated to be called "aturaye". They have always gotten along with Arabs, Kurds, etc. They are a well respected community in Iraq and believe it or not, many of them identify as Arabs and I have seen it with my own eyes. I use to debate with them on their chats and they didn't have much nice to say about "Assyrians". Now that I think about it, I don't much good to say of them either and they are not even Assyrian to begin with.

At the time Fred Aprim was "preserving" his Assyrian identity in Hakkarri mountains, the Chaldeans were already successful in Mosul and other cities. They have had direct contact and lived with Arabs and Muslims for 1,400 years and still strong. Believe it or not, there was a time that the ancastors of the Aprim types were tolerant and successful too. They mingled with others, married, tolerated one another and viewed each other as tribes. The Chaldeans were top politicians, successful business men and educated too. I am not talking about educated in the basement of a church with Qasha putros but they actually went to universities and achieved a lot. The Assyrians are jealous of them and would like to turn them into bigots. I know a Chaldean from Mosul and I dare any Fred Aprim to go up to him and call him "Assyrian" I am afraid he'll get smached with spit in the face.
