are you trying to tell me that no one who believes in god has ever shot someone or stolen their money or married their daughter? Do you know any history

Of course not. No religion has ever had a 100% effect on society. No matter how much religious indoctrination you instill in people's minds, there will always be outliers. Atheism will not be a more effective loss minimization tool.

How do you suppose Christianity was "spread"?

This isn't just about Christianity. It's about all religions. It's about the belief in a God. If you think Christianity caused people to do so and so, then what about Islam? Muslim do believe in God and yet you say they have never been violent. If so, then the problem is not in believing in God, or in a creator. The problem is in a particular religion.

How many Chaplains in the American military have sent young men and women to murder innocent Iraqis, Vietnamese and Koreans, to name a few? Don't they pray over them and ask God to bless them

Yes. This is done for purpose of boosting the soldiers' morale. You can always find a Chaplain to do the job. Soldiers are always told that they are fighting a just war and that God is on their side. They know that they might die, so their leaders give them confidence, hope and something to hang on to.

if I believe my god is the right one then I will believe what his priests say, and they have all said "go and kill for god and country"

If religion can be deliberately used to manipulate people's opinions, then we should ban it? So without religion, they couldn't have found other ways to convince people to go to war, to kill for their leader, their country, party, or ideology?

the Golden Rule asks me to ask myself if I would want someone to kill me, for any reason.....when I answer "no", I know I must not kill others

It is mere words. Nothing forces you, compels you, motivates you, drives you, convinces you to abide by this rule. You will have no qualms over breaking it.

This is strange. So if someone genuinely believes that this “golden rule” is being demanded by an omnipotent creator, then he will violate it. But on the other hand, if someone does not believe so, then there is more chance that he will obey it?
