I agree...somewhat. I agree that the war was never about access to Iraqi oil...hell, Saddam had been selling the stuff and would continue to do so...how else does Iraq pay its bills? I think, besides the dollar connection you mention, there was the notion that prices at the pump could be raised indefinitely because of "unrest in the oilfields"...that certain boosted profits. But mostly I think the war was necessary...or maybe any handy war, because the conservatives have no other way to cram their agenda, festering for decades, down our throats without a war. War and so-called Terrorism was the perfect pretense for the Patriot Act and locking both parties in America to a war economy for the foreseable future...just now we hear that Obama promises to "get" the Taliban no matter what. There are numerous advantages to a ruling class from warfare...but certainly maintaining the dollar and then getting a lot MORE of them was primary. --------------------- |
