yes indeed and the Chaldean name predates the reunion with Rome but I am not saying that all of the modern Chaldeans are ethnically related to the ancients but there were people using the Chaldean name even before 1550. It is even admitted that the Mar Shimon is of Jewish origin so it is possible the nestorians were as well. We have to keep in mind that Syriac was the language of liturgy and of the various peoples living in Mesopotamia. Just because someone speaks Aramaic, that don't mean the person is a descendant of the ancient Assyrians. The common ground that these various people shared was the nestorian faith and the Aramaic language so this causes Fred Aprim and the rest to harass Chaldeans and tell them that they were really Assyrian, yet they fail to realize that in 1550 there was a conversion to Roman Catholic and not a change of ethnicity. No Chaldean of today denies that they were ex nestorian but that don't make them Assyrians nor was there such identity back then. --------------------- |
