The small business owner capitalist does not exist in the shape and form that the fairy tale of being "your own boss" is exaggerated to the masses. I see small business owners and worked for a few who either went out of business because they were smallowed by the mega stores, or they're growing grey and bitter rather quickly busting their asses day and night being their own slave. The fact is that power and money are and have always been concentrated in the hands of a few. With the advent of public relations and daily propaganda funeled down the public's hollow heads through Hollywood films and Cosmopolitan magazine and the like, the social consciousness has been carefully shaped to believe in these myths, and in turn, people have accepted the lies while busying themselves buying the latest gadgets and consuming mindless products because through the trickery of product placement they saw some celebrity wearing the $300 shoes they can't afford - but must buy to feel that they've updated their wardrobe with the latest fad, while downgrading their thinking and sinking deeper in debt. I used to work in several news stands in LA and used to gauge the public's mindset based on the magazines and reading material they daily and weekly purchased. First and formost, news stands, when I worked at one in the early '90s, soley made their profits from selling porn, gossip mag.s and trade papers, like the Hollywood Reporter, the Daily Variety and Drama Logue. There was only a handful of people who bought and read Z Mag., or Counter Punch!, or The Nation. It was rather revealing that the public has only pornographic sex, stupid gossip about celebrities, and the dream to be a celebrity on their mind. And for people who think and function in a one-dimensional way, it's easy to sell the myth of capitalism, success and celebrity, meanwhile cock-blocking them from ever advancing economically, or more importantly, intellectually. There's no level playing field, the game is rigged, and the few are winning while the rest are slowly slaving away and then dying off. --------------------- |
