It's always these pro-capitalists and pro-US that promote these myths. I remember when FOX news would bring these uncle tom type of Iraqis and they would say Saddam was a button away from being able to reach NYC, Paris and London, and this was contrary to what the UN inspectors were saying. I have seen these type of Iranians promoting these ideas and then the Cubans in Florida who are mostly children of the few that lives well in Cuba before Castro. Of course they will be upset and spread lies since they were among the few who lived great while the average didn't have running water at home or electricity. Zelaya, before he was overthrown and such short period of time, managed to reduce poverty and nationalize health care, education, and many other important things which were privately owned. I was just speaking to a Croatian lady last night and she was saying how the war and splitting up was stupid. I think most of the people from former Yugoslavia now regret the splitting into these mini puppet states. Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia, Slovenia, Romania and many other countries have said that life was better under communism and the surveys were taken by pro-capitalists and just to see what the people think. For a very long time it was believed by the US that if the Soviet Union would collapse then all the other countries would turn capitalists but it didn't exactly play out that way. Many countries, including Afghanistan actually survived even after the collapse of Russia. Michael Parenti has a good amount of info on this subject. Y the way, have you read his book about Julius Cesar? I heard it's a good book. I watched his lecture about it. --------------------- |
