...in the latest book I am reading about the missionaries and the tricks they played in Turkey and Iran leading up to WW I the author states that the Euros, in order to bring the local Christians to them to convert faster, would stir up the Kurds and Turkish officials and then stand by and say they could not get involved to help the worried Christians...the actual words,..."this will soften them up", meaning the Christians, were spoken or rather written...it was the Euros' way of forcing our Christians into their arms for the protection the Euro governments could provide, but only if they "converted".
