I don't know how factual this is, but an Iranian man was telling me that Iran was originally a Sunni nation, and it was British missionaries who introduced Shi'ism to the Iranians as a means to divide and rule the Muslims by bringing the Iranians closer to the British Crown for aid against the "barbarian" Arabs. It's interesting that Shi'ites unlike Sunnis are closer to Catholics in the sense that they are idol worshipers, and in that, again like the Catholics and Christians, they are believers of the Twelver sect, like Jesus and his twelve disciples, and the last Imam, Imam Zaman, or the "hidden Imam" aka. the Mehdi, is a dude similar to Isho who is to show up during the end times. To this I say, Bullocks!
