Brother they are full of shit and they know they only became Assyrian about a 100 years ago. I was speaking to a nationalist from Urmia in Iran and he was telling me how his people in Urmia weren't calling themselves "Assyrians" evn a 100 years ago. So I asked him what happened and he said that they finally realized and discovered their roots and said "hold, we are not Suraye, but we are Aturaye". In onther words, they know full well that "Suraye" never meant "Assyrian" for them or else there would be no need to change suddenly to create difficulty. Isn't it ironic that Chaldeans, Suryoye all have no problem being called "Suraye" but the moment one says "Aturaye" there is trouble? The difference between those Nestorians who were named Assyrians by the Brits and the Catholics who were named "Chaldeans" by Rome is that our guys took it to the extreme and decided to use this to steal a piece of land without having to put any work for it. On the other hand, the Chaldean Iraqis were smart because they instead remained loyal to their country and achieved high positions in Iraq. They didn't suddenly claim or demand Basra and sourrounding areas as their former homeland. They behaved like good citizens, and achieved much. Just look at Tariq Aziz and others. In Iran the Christians also achieved a lot when they weren't following Aprim and Dadeesho's ideas. So good question, what stopped them from creating an Assyria all those centuries before the Arabs arrived to the scene? --------------------- |
