...what many of these excerpts show is that assyrians have been trading in their religion for newer and better models since Abgar's time. There is no such thing as an assyrian who was "martyred" for his religion...or who preferred to BE martyred. They were killed for the things they DID, and for revenge, but never BECAUSE they were Christian. assyrians were always on the lookout for added benefits, for better deals....it's understandable, of course, that they would seek help and support and convert to whatever Christian faith offered them better goodies, especially security and protection, but that's only because they acted in such treacherous ways towards their Muslim neighbors BECAUSE of their Christian religion that they NEEDED "protection". They just went looking for it in all the wrong places; like from the same people who CAUSED them to be distrusted by their neighbors and on whose behalf they betrayed their nations and neighbors...this started a cycle in which they needed ever more protection because they behaved in ever escalating treasonous ways, towards their own countries and Muslim neighbors. And, of course, they were always dumped and abandoned by those they believed would be their "saviors"....partly because no one really likes or trusts an opportunist, though they will use them, gladly...and the West did, use them...used them as a pretext to meddle in those countries where Christians were "in danger of persecution"....a danger they fell and were led into BY those Western nations and their missionaries....and their religion.
