Mancho, Could you PLEASE tell this HYSTERIAN that the fool-hardy Dr. Joseph PROVED NOTHING by all that work, and DID NOT ADVANCE HIS THESIS, inspite of all the help and "buildings" he received from our enemies. ...he achieved his goal, which was to present documented evidence plus reasoned argument to show that we, modern Assyrians just as the modern Chaldeans, are an invention of the Europeans. This is something we all accept in the case of the modern Chaldeans and yet we refuse stubbornly to see that it applies to us as well. Otherwise, he would have changed the minds of ALL Historians, (ancient and modern). ...no historian has managed to change all historians' minds..this is not the function of scholarly work..it is to add to the wealth of knowledge and ideas all have accumulated. What you're referring to is propaganda done in the guise of "academic" study. ONCE AGAIN, let me make my point CLEAR: ALL Historians say this, (so don't think it is coming from ME, (Maggie)" ...they do not. Not where the identity of modern Assyrians is concerned. Once again you try to evade the point...which is that this is not the area of expertise of ancient history, because it has nothing to do with ancient history. No one doubts that there were ancient Assyrians...Dr Joseph never even questions this...and no modern historian, who is qualified, that you've ever introduced has presented any evidence to the contrary... "Historians can prove NOTHING by their research. The best they can do is to investigate, (key word) the events that contributed to the feelings and actions of the people that lived in those times." ...and Dr Joseph has presented documented evidence giving the opinions of people and historians, missionaries and officials, in the modern era, who show the process by which the Nestorians changed their identity as a Christian sect to an Assyrian "nation". You all know the steps by which this was accomplished by the pope's emissaries in the 17th century....when they made modern Chaldeans out of what had ben till then Nestorians...we've heard the arguments many times and most modern Assyrians still believe that the Chaldean identity is a figment of the pope's imagination...the same is true for the modern identity of Assyrians...also an invention of Europeans. This is what Dr. Joseph achieved, no more and no less. He NEVER proved that the modern Assyrians are not the descendants of the ancient Assyrians, because he can NEVER do that. ..he can do that better than you can prove they are. He cites the fact that Assyrians were no longer mentioned as actually existing some few centuries after the fall of empire...of course people went on referring to them because everyone knew of them through the bible...but no one living on those lands called him or herself an Assyrian...and there is evidence for this..as well as evidence to show that Tatian and the other Assyrian Greek were not Assyrian at all...and that there was no "Assyrian" kingdon at Adiabene but a Jewish one...and also that there was no surviving class of Assyrian "aristocracy" that rebuilt Nineveh...he also showed that our people called themselves Nestorians, not Assyrians or Chaldeans, up until the 17th and 19th centuries...until then they called themselves Suraye...never Ashuraye...in other words, Syrians..and their language Syriac..which was what the Greeks wrote down for Aram and Aramaic....plus he shopws when newspares in the United States stopped refering to their people as Syrians in favor of "Assyrians" after the First World War..and that until then this term had never been used by the Nestorians and Jacobites in refernece to themselves..plus which they gave up their Assyrian god and language long, long agao...it's all in the book and much more...but if you refuse to read...and understand, what can Dr Joseph do? If he had, his book/research would have ROCKED THE WORLD, AND MADE HISTORY with his "new discovery"! But as we all can see, it did NOT shatter ANYTHING, because HE PROVED NOTHING! ..there is nothing to rock...nothing to shatter. None of this modern tomfoolery is of any interest to the "world". It seems only some of us have been rocked and shattered...the truth is we don't matter much to anyone else, anywhere. The evidence is all over the place.
