I was told by a C.H. fan that Hitchens died from the same cancer which took his father's life. Maybe back in 2001 he had become aware of his own fate and decided to cash in. And regarding his debates with religious people, well, I agree, especially since I just recently watched a clip where he easily deflates the idea that the Nazis were not Christian, by pointing out that most Nazis were indeed Catholic, and how Hitler's birthday was celebrated by the Vatican, and so on.
