"But helping your people and bringing progress to a third world country is a crime in the eyes of Amerika." - The cosmopolitan power elites of these "maldeveloped nations", as Parenti calls them, are more at home in Miami, than they are in Tegucigalpa. The capitalist class of Honduras could care less about the education, healthcare and well being of the majority poor. As long as the lower classes are healthy enough for backbreaking work, and literate enough to take orders, they'll provide the gringo sweatshops with the needed labor force. The last thing the US, IMF and the World Bank want is another Chavez, Correa or Morales in Central America as an alternative to the neoliberal corporate fascism that most of South America has so far been sucessful in pushing back. --------------------- |
