..the main reason that nationalist claims are popular with villagers is that they are the most isolated, paranoid, fearful and ignorant....with no schools to speak of and no use for education. It is from village priests that most nationalists learn their "history", including all that "nasty" Islam supposedly did to them..a point of view most profitable to the priest.

..as to the Chaldeans we know they are a modern invention...as all nationalists admit. We also know that modern Assyrians are just as much of an invention. That's not to say that something remains from all the ancient cultures which permeates the region...but it is not hard evidence or genetically distributed..it's more of a feeling...a sympathy...respect and interest....and, also, a desire to defend and promote....but religion has nothing to do with it.

...Modern Assyrians point to the existence of ancient Assyrians and say...."since they existed, WE exist". A most stupid thing to say.

Being born "in the land of the Chinese" does not make you kin to Genghis Khan.....or Fu Manchu.

The Anglican Church of Beijing" does not indicate that the Anglican religion started in China..or that the parishoners are British....OR Chinese. They may be Germans. The location of a church and the name given that church and adopted by the congregants does NOT make the people "ethnic".

The very fact that not a single person who believes this nonsense can or is willing to have an open debate about it shows that they know better. They know it's an emotional thing mostly to give themselves some sense of superiority in the face of Islam.

While Aprim's villagers hid in the mountains maintaining their identity....Assyrians elsewhere converted to Islam and built the next great empire of that region...the great Islamic Empire, at one time the most advanced and refined in the world.

Assyrians don't hide. But apparently, given their own testimony, they change religions. Some changed to Christ and hid.....the majority changed to Allah and prospered....and the Christians are hiding still. It is Christians, not Muslims, who are attacking and destroying BetNahrain...it is Muslims, not Christians, who are defending it and defeating the foreign Christian mercenaries....led, as they are, by war criminals.

To the Nazis the French Underground was nothing but a bunch of terrorists and criminals....but we know better. History will one day make clear who were the real terrorists in Iraq and who the defenders.
