It's my undrstanding that guerilla warfare was used by the Americans against the British Red Coats during the American Revolutionary War. Emulating the Amrican Indians' style of warfare (comoulflage, hit and run, booby traps, etc.), the ragtag Colonist fighters scored major defeats (ultimately winning the war) against the traditional, anitquated mode of British Forces, who fought in rows, with a marching band, making them nothing more that sitting ducks. It's also interesting that certain National Liberation Movements fighting occupying forces used the Amercian Revolution and the Declaration of Independence as a guiding light and model for their emancipation from the claws of the occupiers; i.e. Ho Chi Mihn and the Viet mihn when they were resisting the French forces, defeating them at Diem Bien Phu (1955?)
