I agree with Chomsky's premise that Bush, Blair, Sharon, Putin, etc. each used 9/11 as a means to particular ends. I also agree with you, that technically speaking, a conspiracy is when two people get together and plot. But "conspiracy theories" have taken on a meaning of "crack-pot theories" - no matter how much sense they may or may not make. I think scholars like Chomsky (or Finkelstein) need definite proof to accept or agree with these type of analyses. Someone like him, who's always been under attack for his ideas, with his opponents waiting to disprove him on one thing and therefore destruct his whole system of analysis, have a difficult time subscribing to these type of speculations. Like Woody Allen says: "Inellectuals are like the Mafia, they only kill their own." Or, he's just a sholarly snob or "an old dog who can't learn a new trick." --------------------- |
