The only positive manifestation of the teachings of Jesus (as we know them through the Gospels) was Liberation Theology in Latin America, which focused on uplifting the poor and the "meek"... as Jesus had supposedly preached.

The outcome: A deliberate attempt by South and Central American leaders trained at the School of the Americas AKA, "The School of Assassins", in Fort Benning, Georgia, and Panama. Under the guidance of the CIA and their Chilean partners, DINA, Pinochet's secret police, in addition to anti-Castro right-wing mercenaries, and sadistic neo-Nazis imported via the Vatican, Croatian intelligence, CIA, M-I6, and other elite players through "rat lines" from Europe to South America, Liberation Theology was immediately demonized as "communist" and rendered illegitimate by John Paul II, who hurriedly beatified the Croatian Nazi collaborator, Archbishop Stepinac, meanwhile dragging his feet to honor Archbishop Oscar Romero, who was murdered during mass in 1980 in San Salvador, by a member of the right-wing ARENA, supported with arms, intelligence and PR by the US, with the blessings of the Vatican.

Another proponent of Liberation Theology (LB) was Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who became the first democratically-elected president of Haiti - after decades of repression by father and son "Papa Doc" and "Baby Doc" Duvalier ( who, by the way, were great friends of the "saintly" Mother Theresa). Aristide was removed twice in a coup: once under Clinton, and once under Bush Jr. He could no return to his homeland of Haiti - but "Baby Doc" Duvalier could, and did. Aristide finally was given a deal: He could only return back home if steps out of politics and dismantles his LAVALAS party -- which if it had been part of the elections, the party and its leader, Aristide, would have won in a land slide.

And now about the new Pope: Here's an interesting discussion on Democracy Now! about the Pope's role during Argentina's "Dirty War", when the country was run by neo-Nazis:
