...my father also told me stories about Assyrian kids growing up in Iraq and how tough but decent they were...not tough guys at all...just courageous....and he went on to become a psychiatrist yet he fought many a battle with those old slingshots against other gangs, mainly Muslim.

I think what we see in these nationalist/hero warriors is what happens to those who believe they are owed something, that they have been "persecuted" and "martyred" and will be SAVED by a Jew carpenter. This is not a recipe for sourage but rather for grovelling on your knees...making oneself so pathetic that someone will be moved to help....it's a shamefull spectacle.
