There was a period in the '90s when I was trying to open-up my mom and family members by analyzing and breaking-down how the system of domination works, and how the media (cable TV and the rest) is used to "inform" and "entertain", or as Neal Postman writes, "amuse" us to death. Well, it didn't last. It was a difficult task, like telling a friend in denial that he's a drug addict. My brother, on the other hand, sets an example by coming around and taking my mom to a ballet or the museum. It seems to be working much better than my 'YOU'RE A FUCKIN' SLAVE!' approach.
