You know where I stand regarding people in general, be they Jewish or whatever, as I've always said I am against religion and nationalism. And unfortunately, the voices of Jews who are against Zionism is not being heard, because since the '67 war the Zionists have hi-jacked Judaism and turned Zionism into the religion of the Jews. So if you disagree with Zionism, then you're automatically labeled an anti-Semite. I don't buy that bullshit, neither do Jewish activists on the front lines of Bil'in or anywhere else in the occupied territories where they stand shoulder to shoulder with their Arab comrades against fascism and apartheid.

Now, regarding gentrification. The techies, who are not all Israelis, but many of them are, act like colonial settlers. Just last week in The Mission a young, Latino man was shot and murdered by SFPD at Bernal Heights. At the vigil, not a single white person showed up to support his family and advocate on behalf of victims of police brutality and overreaction:

"One African-American activist named Omar told Occupy.com he thought it reflected "a sign of the colonial attitude that many new residents have in the area." He continued, "The white people, unfortunately, do not come out in anger at these things because they are rarely, if ever, the victim of police profiling and violence."

"The absence of white people attending the vigil, however, was notable, reinforcing the divide in the community. Occupy.com asked a number of white people seated at local, nearby cafes what they thought about the shooting – and none expressed distrust or frustration over the lethal action taken by police."


I used to hang out at The Mission. The white friends I had there are artists and musicians, many of whom are Jewish and were an integarl part of the community. But they couldn't afford living there, so they moved to Oakland. The new White residents are the Israeli techies. And they act just as colonials acted in Algeria, or South Africa, or Palestine. Now, you and I can agree about root causes, but do you think people in a precarious situation give a flying fuck about who did what to whom first when their friends are being shot and murdered by cops because the new White residents don't feel safe around Black and Brown people?
