This is simply about class, class warfare against the poor. It's not a case of anti-Semites against Jews, it's a case of local residents -- whom among them are many Jewish residents of the City who are irate at not just the gentrification of their home city, but the chutzpah of the Israeli techies who get transported to their jobs in Silicon Valley and flip-off the demonstrators from the comfortable, secure Google bus in which they ride. There are non-Zionist or anti-Zionist Jews like Phillip Weiss and Adam Horowitz from Mondoweiss.net, or the socialist Lenni Brenner who point out that this type of gentrification has characteristics of settler colonialism, like the French in Algeria, or Zionists in Israel who joke about putting Gazans on a "diet" to keep them barely alive. I admit I have nothing in common with the poor or "the workers", but just because I like fine art and philosophy and they enjoy beer, wrestling and acting like pigs toward women doesn't mean that they deserve to get kicked out of their neighborhoods. My neighborhood was Chicano for over five decades until the Japanese bought all of the property and pushed the former residents out. The whites who bitch and moan about "English only" when it comes to poor Latinos, kiss the asses of the wealthy Japanese who's Mexican gardeners whom they exploit speak better English than their employers. I'd take the same position if Assyrians began gentrifying North Hollywood, or the Perisans, Westwood, which they have, and I deliberately boycott all the Persian owned businesses there (well, there have been exceptions, I can't boycott great kebobs). I agree with your radical analysis: the root cause of anti-Semitism was a Christian project. But now Israel has the world's 4th or 5th biggest and most lethal army, they have nuclear weapons, they are the wealthiest group in all parts of the world, including the US and Israel. If the Christians are their true enemy, isn't it time to get even? I just cannot stand someone who gets bullied by a bigger person, and in turn, to impress his tormentor, he does what was done to him to a weaker person. That's inexcusable... but I understand the reasons behind it, even though I disagree with the whole concept. --------------------- |
