To have an educated populace you need a total cultural makeover. I'm also not for mob rule when the majority of blue collar workers I knew and worked with were self-centered, racist, sexist, homophopic, and mediocre. I can say the same about the so-called commuanl, hippie, arsty types I lived with. At the end of the day, I wanted to get as far away from them as I could. But the workers' educational deficit, for the most part, had to do with the fact that they hadn't the opportunity, the time and the money to get a formal education, or they lacked the time to educate themselves, since many of them had to support families or they happened to be immigrants and new to the counrtry, working two jobs just to get by. I think the most important thing is a level palying field: access to eduaction, healthcare, housing, and jobs for all. This we don't have in America anymore. Even if one's lucky to have a university degree, they're still not guaranteed a good job and the rest. --------------------- |
