I've not read Garrison's book and though I have great respect for Chomsky and have been reading Alexander Cockburn since the 90s when he and Hitchens used to write for the Nation magazine, and, while I'm also usually dismissive of conspiracy theories, I think Parenti makes a pretty damn good case in this 50 min. video that there was a conspiracy involving several people (or parties or agnecies) other than a "lone shooter". This makes me want to carefully watch Stone's JFK and read Garrison's and the other writers to which Parenti refers. The one thing he leaves out which the KGB asserted was that when (was it Cabot Lodge?) went to Vietnam giving the green light for the coup that resulted in Diem and his brother Nhu's arrest on Nov 2, 1963 and subsequent murder, it broke up the whole narco trafficking pipeline (for a time, at least) that was feeding millions of dollars to the Corsicans and the Cosa Nostra who in turn broke up the communist union's grip of the waterfront. The KGB actually believe that the second shooter -- or one of the other shooters -- was a french mercenary sent by the Corsicans. Another thing about Chomsky is that the older he's become (he's 88), his voice tends to put me to sleep, as oppossed to the 80 year old Parenti who's always full of energy and passion. For some reason I can only read Chomsky, but snooze during his lectures. --------------------- |
