-- As Rawaya points out, the grey-suited days of Ike's 1950s America are fortunately behind us. Aside from the voices of some "White angry men" and their religionist and reactionary cohorts, U.S. public opinion polled is to the left of conservatives and both political parties. But the way the system functions is to co-opt what may be a genuine revolutionary instinct to bring forth substantial change and assimilating it into socially permissible forms, and therefore systematically dismantling the initial instinct to rebel by channeling that energy into commodified conservative entities under the guise of a liberating force. In this case, the face of American power is that of a Black man, meantime Black Americans suffer from 50% unemployment, living in areas that match those of the underdeveloped world, where Black youth become objects of police violence and White vigilantism, or incentives for private prisons in obtaining Federal grants. As for a Hindu of Indian descent being Miss America, it may just be a Public Relations (PR) move to include a brown face on the American social palette, while seeking out new consumers to import the American Dream to the Indian subcontinent's elites, in addition to representing a superficial facade of a New and Improved! post-racial America. Afterall, how can anyone say the U.S. is racist when the president is Black, Miss America is Brown and our main creditor is Yellow? I imagine the new conservatism will be like the old conservatism that emerged after the Civil War during Reconstruction when Southern Whites, and segments of the North, organized themselves into the largest American social movement and the most organized American terror group: The Klu Klux Klan (KKK). But I'm a pessimist. Hopefully the economy will recover, and there will be no natural disasters caused by Climate Change, since most armed Right-Wing militias, like Tom Metzger's White Aryan Resistance (WAR), are anticipating an economic collapse or a natural disaster like Katrina as their cue to come down from the hills and start the inevitable race war, or White Man's Second Coming, to finalize the American Civil War. But then again, I'm wrong most of the time. --------------------- |
