That's a good point and I agree. What I find interesting in the racist tweets (other than the ignorance of calling her "Arab" and "terrorist"), is that today's India is not the India of the Non Aligned Movement (NAM) under Jawaharlal Nehru or Indira Gandhi who enjoyed diplomatic relations and aid from Soviet Moscow, but a new "white" India given up on her semi-socialist past by implementing neoliberal economic policies and allowing US-based corporations like Monsanto to have a monopoly over Indian seeds, as emphasized by Dr. Vanda Shiva when she wrote: "Control over seed is the first link in the food chain because seed is the source of life. When a corporation controls seed, it controls life, especially the life of farmers." So far over a hundred thousand Indian farmers have committed suicide since 1998.

At the present time, India is closer to Israel and the U.S. than she is to... India. India also plays a bulwark against a rising China and the Taliban-friendly Pakistanis in Afghanistan and pro-Muslim Pakistanis in Kashmir. It makes me wonder if the reason for her win may have had to do with the political and economic relations U.S. has developed with India, or more precisely, the Indian elite, or bourgeoisie. If the U.S. shifted its foreign policy on Iran, I wouldn't be shocked if the next Miss. America was named Neda or Fereshteh.
