I agree. For decades Mexicans have been picking our fruits and produce as seasonal workers allowed to enter the US to be legally exploited. NAFTA geared the monstrous US agribusiness companies to flood Mexico with its cheap products (for instance corn), overwhelming its markets and leaving Mexican farmers living and laboring on their own farms with the desperate choice to sell their land, cross the border and languish on our street corners begging to be rented for a day's hardwork for $5/hr.. or less. Unlike outsourcing factories to China and India where we don't see who actually "stole" our jobs, we see the Mexican laborers daily, frequently, mowing the lawns, carrying bricks, raising our kids. We sometimes even hire them to clean our toilets while blaming them for "stealing" our jobs. --------------------- |
