The late, socialist economist and Trotskyist revolutionary, Ernest Mandel said that in 1933 in Germany wages remained the same while profits soared by 300%. Then people like Henry Ford, a known and proud anti-Semite, started pumping money in support of Hitler, as did German industrialists and corporations like I.G. Farben (which produced the Zyklon B that was used to gas Jews, communists and other "undesirables" and "useless eaters"). All of this happened under the guise of democracy and the threat of a fifth column (Jews) from within and the specter of communism from without (Soviet Union), which was the right combination to very quickly build a large mass movement (Nazism). In the U.S. wages have stagnated since 1970, while private profits have surpassed Germany's 300%. Now add to all this the impending environmental crisis (California's water crisis), globalization, NAFTA and the outsourcing of jobs, the dismantling of labor unions, the demonization of a fifth column (Muslims, anarchists, environmentalists, LGBTQ, Feminists), the militarization of local police trained by Israel's repressive apparatus ("crowd control"), capitalism's contradictions which naturally cause 25-30 year cycles of recessions and so-called "recovery", the media mafia mouthpiece for neocons and cheerleaders of neoliberlism, the military-security-industrial complex, a mass movement of modern fascism (the Tea Party, various militias, a resurgent Klan made up of veterans of recent wars pumped up on hate, meth amphetamines and an endless cache of deadly weapons), Radical Evangelical Christians and Dominion Theology, the gun culture and "second amendment remedies", lack of funding for schools, after-school programs, infrastructure, and once thriving cities (Detroit, Ferguson, Baltimore)... and all this brought to us by our own complacency that we live in the wealthiest, best country in the world which will never fail us, it's citizens. Mandel said that by 1935, the Nazis were able decrease wages and liquidate social security... it can't happen here, right? ... Right. --------------------- |
