I agree. Just take African-Americans in cinema, first they were portrayed as smilin' Toms and Mammys, then Poitier comes along. But in no time, his esteemed character becomes a one-dimentional stereotype franchise. Then in early '70s, "Shaft" and "Super Fly" put some balls on the castrated Black man. Once again, the now new Black hero gets exploited into the new product: Blaxploitaion. And on and on it goes... Spike Lee did a film a few years back on this phenomena.
