First of all, the Christians arrested were not Assyrian, Chaldean, Syriac, Armenian, or Iranian Christians (Russ/Pers.). This is a group of former Muslims who found a way to rebel against the state. Through the internet and missionaries, these folks found that they can be Evangelical Christians by accepting Jesus only through "being saved" -- no priest, no church. It just takes another evangelical to perform the "saving". Second, Iran has laws prohibiting Muslims from converting to any other faith. And, lastly, with so many spies in their midst (US support of Mujuhadeen E Khalq or MEK, who, by the way, is on US's terrorist list); US bases and military on each side of them (Iraq/Afghanistan); the threat of an Israeli pre-emptive strike; and the history of missionaries and war, they have every right to be worried about US imported Evangelical Christianity. Every time I hear the word "missionary" I think about the Jehovah's Witness knocking at my door right as I'm getting ready to have dinner in my boxer shorts. FUCK OFF!! --------------------- |
