It is a known fact today by almost everyone except ignorant Americans that Saddam was brought to power by the US. He was empowered so that he could stop any kind of democracy and of course because he would be willing to war with Iran. It is no secret but that's history now. Let's talk about the US democracy and how good is it really. Many presidents have come and gone in the last 100 years but the policies haven't changed. The face changes but policy remains the same. Hillary Clinton was going toe to toe with Obama yet ended up being in his administration and how is that possible if they were so different? Obama sat with Bush and even John McCain after he won the election to get suggestions and "work closely with republicans." They are supposed to be different yet nothing changes so this is a perfect example of what can go wrong even with "free elections." I agree with Pancho that it also depends on the level of education. People can be manipulated to vote against their own interests and sometimes without even knowing it. Americans are very naive, ignorant and it is done intentionally as well. America claims to be a democracy yet you only have two party system. There are candidates who aren't even republican nor democrat yet run under those banners just because they can't get ballot access. We also know by now that Bush had stolen the election in the year 2,000 and he was selected instead of elected. Obama was obviously too selected instead of elected because the majority of whites did not vote for him. Blacks are a minority and even if everyone of them had voted Obama, he still wouldn't make it. Even democraatic systems can be taken advantage of and people can be manipulated. Palestinians elected their leadership democratically yet Israel/US did not approve. Somalia also democratically elected its leadership yet it was overthrown few weeks later by the US via Ethiopia. Iran elected its leadership in the 50s but was assassinated and replaced by a western backed dictatorship. I actually would prefer life under a dictator like Saddam if I had to choose between him and what the US has become or what it has offereed Iraqis. One of my friends comes from Shia family in Iraq and he said he grew up poor with his single mother struggling to provide for the children in the 1960s. He said he could notice how quickly life improved for him and his siblings when Saddam came to power. He has no reason to take his side but he still admitted it. My family also says the same and every Iraqi I have met has said the same and the only people I have seen who complain against him are radical Shias, Kurds and some Assyrians like Fred Aprim. My uncle was a professional soccer legend in the 1960s and had long retired by the time Saddam came yet when he was trying to immigrate to the west, he was offered political asylum but he had to tell of how bad Saddam was to him and all that kind of political stuff. He refused and the reason he did so wasn't out of fear but because he said "I lived well and was close with his son". He ate with them and said he couldn't betray someone with whom he shared a meal and someone who hadn't done anything bad to him. I also know another Assyrian who is a millionaire and still brags of him to this day. I am sure he hurt some people but I am also positive if Iraqis could change things they would rather live under him than to live what they have. At least under him everyone was safe except people who were a threat to his government and to the state. Every christmas and ramadan he would release people from prison who had been there for a while. He gave them pardon and no Iraqi had to fear getting killed or having his home looted. America has taken Iraq back to the stone age and anyone who says otherwise has no clue. I don't see the US dictatorship any different except it comes with different faces every few years. I highly doubt that in any capitalistic country, which claims to be free and democratic, votes of the majority(which are almost always right at about poverty or below), do votes actually matter. It is the interests of billionaires and super wealthy which are looked out for and not what people want. Even if my theory about Obama not really being elected is wrong, he then lied to the people to get their votes but only to betray them and further the policies of his cousin, Bush. There isn't much of a difference between a president who lied to people and one who took office by force. The US has killed far more people in Iraq than Saddam has and has killed far more Americans than Saddam has. In case you don't believe me when I say Americans are ignorant and naive and their education system is made weak intentionally, the majority of Americans couldn't even tell you what language is spoken in Iraq. And I am willing to bet money that if you ask the average American what continent Iraq is in, they will say "Middle east" instead of Asia. Americans have been this ignorant and have never known the enemies its government made around the world. Education has a big effect on democracy and when it comes to election time, therefore, I say that in some cases such systems are useless and guarantee nothing. I don't know what your intention is with this post but I hope it's not to justify the invasion of Iraq or to tell me that the US has it better than Iraqis because they can elect their leaders. Americans didn't vote for more wars, spending etc. Americans voted for bringing troops home, stop these wars, close Guantanamo Bay etc. Obama made many such promises just like the presidents before him but was only lying. He has become no different from those "brutal dictators" because he has assassinated people and there hardly any kind of opposition in America. During this term, Obama has killed more people than Saddam did in 30 years. He may have been a dictator but the claims that "he has killed his people" have never been proven ever. Which government has killed people? US has capital punishment and everything. Highest prison population in the world. Is this a free and democratic country? who are the real dictators here? --------------------- |
