...I wouldn't be surprised...when we installed the Ashurbanipal in San Francisco one outraged Assyrian from Canada actually wrote a letter to the editor of the Chronicle saying he would come blow the statue up if it was installed...needless to say he didn't and never had any intention of doing so...in fact, our nationalists generally are used to talking only....they have no experience with actually DOING anything. Certainly nothing even close to what they threaten or promise to do. It's curious....many of our greatest Assyrians got so pissed off at me mostly because I raised the level for what you could do and call yourself, or have others call you, a GREAT Assyrians. After the Ashurbanipal Monument it was no longer so easy to be a "great" artist. Now, you needed more than your cousin's opinion..or your local Assyrian club...or Assyrian magazine. More than anything, this is what our heroes resent; that someone actually DID something that people outside our community took notice of, without laughing at us...so WE decided to laugh. And call the police and the State Department. Because it just got harder to be "great"...and they can't forgive that. --------------------- |
