...something disturbing in these kinds of discussions and you sense it mostly with neo-con types, which is what Hitchens is advocating when it comes to his fears of Islam and that is that people lie...they say, "studies show...", or "I spoke with someone who...." Religious folk do it all the time...then there's another tactic I've noticed...it doesn't matter WHAT a progressive-type says, it could be, "the sun sets in the West" and sure enough the neo-con says "Oh come ON, everyone knows that's just you liberals..." And they keep up a barrage of supposedly outraged incdredulity that anyone would say anything BESIDES what the neo-cons believe...but mostly their favorite tactic is to fill up the space with noise, talking a mile a minute and depending on the good manners of their adversaries, or the timidity of hosts, not to tell them to shut up...they either drown you out or lie you out...point is to stop YOU from making any points or negating whatever you say, no matter how reasonable or factual.
