The Arab leaders you named, just like the Shah, are totally out of touch with their own people, and thus depend on outside forces to build their infrastructure. The current government of Iran, due to extrnal threats and imposed sanctions, are also moving toward a police state -- exactly where the West wants to push them, so that they can prove that Iran in fact is a ruthless, repressive nation. Personally, I hope for a secular and democratic system in Iran and the Mid-East, but one of the people and for the people, and not an imported neoliberal "democracy" from the West, like the ones they plugged into Latin America in the 70s and 80s. --------------------- |
