I was not yet a teenager when I first watched Scarface in the summer of '83, San Jose. By August, some of my own cousins, and other Assyrians, used to all claim to be "Tony". Nobody wanted to act like the underlings, or his friend, "Manolo". Classic Assyrianism: Everybody wanted to act (in their own minds) to be boss, to be Tony. The Iranian-Persians were even more clownish, since the first flood of post '79 immigrants here were learning English beginning at 18, and who pronounce the letter "S" as "es", they were running around trying to imitate Tony's Dezi Arnez on coke accent ("Hey Lucy!"), with their heavy Persian accented English, while playing "Escarface" in their daddy's shiny, black cars.
