You're absolutely right, the misuse and overuse of the word lessens its historical impact. Although I have great respect for John Pilger and his work, I don't know why he would especially use the word holocaust when the word, as you say, is synonymous with and specifically designated to describe what happened to European Jews during the Nazi Holocaust, which in Hebrew is known as "Shoah", or "catasrophe". (The Palestinians also use the word "catastrophe", which in Arabic is "Nakba" to define their suffering on the same day that Israeli's celebrate their independence.) --------------------- |
