That is true about Saddam being attacked for same reason. Libya had no debt, its currency was backed by gold, its oil industry was nationalized and Gaddafi was pro-African unity like Gamal Abdel Nasser and others in Africa. I remember hearing when I was younger that creating a united Africa was a big no no and worthy of death. Brother Gaddafi knew he was playing with danger but someone has to do it and he was brave enough. He died for what he believed in and he is much more of a man than any american president could ever wish to be. Gaddafi walked in the streets and visited poor people while bush was taking tours from the air after hurricane kitrina. Imagine a president afraid to see his own population and then I remember saddam visiting his troops in the battle fields during the war with Iran and when the US bombs fell. Gaddafi made a huge mistake when he opened up and got rid of his nuclear program. I guess he felt no need for it since would have never used it but it would have gained respect. Iran should pursue its program or else it will end up like Iraq. Now that I think about it. I wish khomeini would have conquered Saudi Arabia and straightened them camel bangers out.
