"the Labor Movement is the real history of America......Joan Baez sings a haunting song about Sacco and Vanzetti taken entirely from their own letters...." - Regarding the history of the Labor Movement, the other week US veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars took part in the protest against NATO in Chicago, I think. They said a few words and then threw their medals in the air, back to the military heads and corporate CEOs who used them to kill and open up new markets for the gluttonous corporatocracy. Among one of GIs was a very articulate individual who said that "our forefathers were socialists, Labor orginizers, anarchists...". I was amazed to hear this, especially from a soldier of war. He knew what he was talking about, he must have read Howard Zinn. And Joan Baez... I am eternally in love with her!!! What an amazing person, what a voice, what an artist, what an brave activist! I almost got to see her live one spontaneous night in San Francisco, but instead I saw Richie Havens, which was even better! (I think I have the Sacco and Vanzetti song on one of her albums. I just need to purchase another record player, so I can listen to the small treasure of vinyl I've collected over the years.) --------------------- |
