I remember in a Political Science class my professor asked us why he could stand before the class and trash the US government without dealing with any real consequences. The answer was "'cause no one is listening." Now, legally, they say that when there is "clear and present danger" all that shit about our rigths and liberties goes out the window. Is there "clear and present danger" now? Or were too many people listening and thinking about what Rashad was saying? My professor lost his gig - his favorite class to teach: US HIST - because when he stood in solidarity with his Iraqi students against the war, the Head of the History Dept. at LA Valley College (a Right-Wing Assyrian woman), decided to dole him out some real consequences because with his reputation among the youth, way too many people were listening... and agreeing. --------------------- |
