Of course we are Africans. Assyrians, like all other human populations are in the end, nothing but a subset of East Africans. The highest genetic diversity is observed in East Africa, the most ancient human skeletons were discovered in East Africa. All human DNA can traced back to East Africa.

We are all Africans, all of us. But Assyrian nationalists want to believe that everyone is descended from us. All because we are "responsible" for the inception of civilization. Civilization and agriculture are recent conventions in our species history. Humans have been practicing agriculture for only about 12,000 to 10,000 years.

Our species has been around for around 200,000 to 250,000 thousand years. We spent the vast majority of our time in Africa. Civilization is much younger than that. We're all ultimately the descendants of Hunter-Gatherers. Yes, even Assyrians. Near Easterners evince an even greater genetic affinity to Africans than Europeans do, and this is due to the fact that we're closer to the progenitor source of the species.
