when we try be fair and honest about differences between islam and Christianity I think we always have to remember that Islam is 700 years younger than Christianity...that if you went back to an equivalent time in Christian history you would be comparing Islam today to Christianity in the 14th Century. You canīt compare a six year oldīs mental or physical development to that of a 13 year-olds...it just isnīt fair....you can compare what the 13 year-old was able to achieve when he was SIX...and compare that to any other six year-old...but not straight across like the age difference meant nothing. For lots of reasons islamic fundamentalism still has a grip on peopleīs lives today...as Christianity did 7 centuries ago...every barbarity people ascribe to Islam today was ten times worse in the Christianity of the 14th and 15th Centuries. So, yes, Muslim governments produce clerics and politicians who will apply strict Islamic Law, or what has evolved as Islamic Law...but so did the Pope seven centuries ago, though we still canīt find anywhere in Jesusīs words where he advocated an Inquisition...but the political/religious leaders did these hideous things.... And let us not forget that the Christian United Stateshas waged wars against unoffending nations, killing millions, so while it is true that the American government will not hang you for being Gay..it WILL starve to death your children, for no reason whatsoever, and certainly not for being Gay or not...or any threat at all...just because they WANT to and because it makes them a lot of money. Itīs horrible to be hanged in Iran for being Gay...itīs also horrible to have your dear child starved to death, in Iraq, by Christians ....for what?....exactly? Which is worse? Which is better? And if both are equally repugnant, letīs still remember that Christianity is 700 years OLDER than Islam, and should know better by now. --------------------- |
