I've faced discrimination from different groups in my life (our own being one of them), but white racists have a special place on my shit list. In San Jose in the early 1980s, white boys made school hell for me. They went as far as calling our home late at night with threats of burning down our house with us in it, and ultimately, they broke in one night, destroyed and pissed on our few belongings, and wrote more threats on our walls. Fortunately, that night we were at an Assyrian American Association (AAA) meeting (how boring those were)and came home to find our house vandalised (one of the reasons why I've lived in apartments all of my life and still get nervous when I stay inside someone's house). What stopped this reign of terror was when I began to fight back and when the school's few black kids took me in as one of their own. I can't even imagine what the brothers and sisters down south went through during Jim Crowe.
