"...Orwell was no more prejudiced against Jews than Hitchens is against Muslims...and with all the same illogic and lies. The same sorts of slanders and "proofs" that were urged against Jews have been revived and used against Muslims...the same. Germans, and others, believed world-wide Jewry was out to get them...they saw plots and conspiracies every time one Jew helped another...and today we still speak of the "powerful influence" of the Jewish lobby.....nothing has changed....only the religion and culture that we hate." -- I agree, and perhaps in the introduction of Orwell's diary Hitchens was attempting to explain his own prejudice against Islam and Muslims by exploring Orwell's anti-Semitism. Like Orwell who had Jewish comrades and who had addressed anti-Semitism in his later writings, Hitchens also had many Muslim friends and his solidarity with the Qurdish and Palestinian cause was unwavering. --------------------- |
