Chinese junk is truly junk. I remember a mechanic friend who was showing me tools he had purchased in the late '60s which were made in the U.S. that he's used for decades and continues to use, to brand new tools made in China that only lasted him no less than a year. The same goes with clothes. I still have my father's shirts, pants and jackets which he bought in the U.S. in the '70s, or sometimes I buy items from yard sales or second hand stores since I don't like today's fashion and love the clothes, cars, women, and the look of the '60s and early '70s, and I compare them to today's junk made in China or El Salvador or Indonesia, and it saddens me to see that once upon a time we manufactured our own goods in the U.S. and the materials, the design, and the entire effort employed were something to be proud of... once upon a time... when there were unions, job security, camaraderie, skills, and pride in making things that last. --------------------- |
