...when you think about it only the poor, disenfranchised and marginalized came to America....why would any wealthy, well-established foreigner come to live in America from the 1740s on? This is one reason white Americans have such low opinions of Latin people...because all they've ever seen or barely known are the very poorest, unskilled, uneducated examples...the rich and prosperous don't move from Puerto Rico to Harlem...neither do the wealthy and well-established from any country...why would they? If all the world knew of the US was the white people of Appalachia and the Hog Wallers of Virginia, they wouldn't think much of us. People came to America because they were poor and often starving too...they came, therefore, to work and work and then work some more. And if there still WAS work in this country, they'd all be out there doing it....but the country has given up on meaningful work, though there are lots of things that NEED doing...but, no private person is going to fund it, because there's no profit in it, and they don't want to fund the government so it can do it...and so there we are...stuff rots and people too. And it would be oh so easy to change the equation! But, you have to kill god first...and burn his heaven down. --------------------- |
