The bearded Iranian revolutionaries who overthrew the US-backed Shah, and who we used to call khmareh and hamal, studied the ins and outs of US history from the American Indian tribes to the conquistadors and the settlers, to western expansion and the neo-colonial American empire. They may look stupid, but since post WWII, and epecially after '53, these people have been radicalised, studiying history and different liberation ideologies, putting into practice their own unique revolutionary Islamic movement, and using what legal means possible and available to them through International law, to defend their revolution and nation. They're not going to take a threat bending over. And the Iranians living in Iran, no matter how much they may dislike the current regime, are so nationalistic that they'd put everything on the line and defend their country. Even the minority Azeri, Armenian, Assyrian, and Jews will fight against a foreign invasion. Why would they not defend their children, family and nation? It's only the Iranians living in the West that are supportive of a war. They don't have much to lose. They and their families live here. Especially those like Amanpour who got most, if not all, of their lands and wealth handed back to them by the Islamic government. --------------------- |
