I disagree. The US being the sole globocop on the world scene unilateraly invaded a sovereign nation of Iraq mainly to continue to control the one commodity that we are all dependent on. Oil. But there's more to it than just physically controling oil. It's the control of the selling of oil and ensuring that it continues to be sold in US dollars and the billions continue to be invested in US treasuries thus backing the US dollar hegemony and ensuring the world's lowest interest rates. This has allowed big business to thrive and the people to become the most profligate in the human history. Close to 85% of capital flows from the Middle East and Europe flow into the US. The US government's maintenance of US dollar hegemony through the control of oil allows it to effectively continuously borrow money and finance its worldwide military bases throughout the world. Meanwhile the weapons manufacturers, the oil companies and other big business realise the good cop, bad cop routine cycle adopted by the democrats and the republicans and make the most of tragedies and wars through disaster capitalism. The US needs to be defeated economicaly which hopefully this subprime mess will trigger before it retreats back home and returns to the civilised world. --------------------- |
